Stop Listening To Your Inner Devil

Stop listening to your inner devil

Inside our heads there is a very negative figure, a critic who keeps telling us what we need and don’t need to do and how we should behave. And ste little devil inside us azucrina creates pressure, hurt our own self-esteem, and despite being quite inconvenient and undesirable, after succumb to your chat accounts and just considering their messages.

Whether you listen to one or the other depends solely on which one we choose to guide our daily lives. The reality is that both the imp and the Jiminy Cricket are fruits of our own minds that we create ourselves. So, as they are the exclusive product of our minds, we are the sole owners of both voices; a very good thing because then we have the freedom to choose which one to follow without anything or anyone being able to intrude.

We choose our thoughts regardless of the situation in which we find ourselves. We can take the path of negativity, catastrophism or fear; or choose the path of joy, calm and optimism.

The language of the inner devil

You will recognize the inner devil when, in a given situation, he starts whispering sentences in the form of a question that involve fear : “What if my wife has a traffic accident because of me?” Exaggerated words and phrases such as “unbearable”, “terrible”, “what bad luck I have”, “I’m useless”, etc.

Your language is so negative that, if you believe what you say, you will start to feel sad, anxious, angry… Your emotions will no longer be functional: they will not serve to solve the problem you have in front of you. However, they will serve to sink you even further and for the inner devil to continue talking more effectively.

But why is he so interested in stalking me? You are wrong. The truth is, he doesn’t want to chase you. Deep down, this little devil wants to protect you, but he gets confused, he doesn’t choose the right moment, he’s out of step. Their reactions are disproportionate and untimely.

This little devil would have served you in many circumstances of your life. What would we have done without it when, in cave times, the beast chased us to kill us? At those times it was necessary for the little devil to light up as an alarm, to help us find that stress so necessary to preserve life.

The little devil, moreover, ended up adapting to what humans created as the “should be” and he repeats it every day. So, it causes us a good deal of suffering: sadness, pressure, anger… emotions that would not have to be present with such need at many times.

Ignore the inner devil and feel free

To get to the point where we feel negative but healthy emotions that help us solve problems, we need to start ignoring this critical little voice.

  • Watch without judging what the devil says. Even if you don’t like what he says, don’t try to tell him to leave. Leave him there and he alone, when he realizes you don’t care about him, he’ll end up leaving.
  • Laugh and play with him. If you stop to think about it, it’s easy to end up playing with it, since it’s so exaggerated and unrealistic that we can laugh at the atrocities it ends up saying. Reduce all these thoughts to absurdity and you’ve given yourself a laugh therapy session.

  • Have a goal and follow it regardless of what he thinks. “You can’t”, “You’re not good for this job”, “People will laugh at you”, “You won’t find anyone like him”, “You’re not attractive, no one will hire you” … and on, on and on . These would be some of the pearls that this little devil can drop, making you abandon your intentions. Don’t let this happen. To break the circle and silence him, the trick is to act without paying attention to him, say what he says.
  • Question him. Since his words aren’t based on the truth, it’s easy to disarm everything he says. You only need to ask him questions aimed at finding the truth of all his arguments, and you will see that his arguments are false; based on subjective beliefs but never, in the five senses, in the here and now, in reality.

Luckily, just as we can make the devil’s strength grow, we can also educate him so that his messages have an impact that is in sync with the real demands of our own surroundings. Achieving this means that if a beast does show up, it will give us a great deal of activation to ensure our own survival, and that if it doesn’t, it will keep quiet.
