I Want But I Can’t

I want but I can't

There are many things I want but cannot do. It’s not that I have limitations, neither is there anyone or anything to stop me. Simply, for some reason I don’t know, my mind keeps me from doing something I really want.

This has certainly happened to you on more than one occasion. These are situations where you want to do something but for some reason you can’t. Of course, wanting is not always power, but what happens inside you? What keeps you from fighting for what you want?

The trap of wanting and not being able

Sometimes we fall into a trap that we are not fully aware of. We want something that, as much as we want it, we’re not going to get it. This is because we want to achieve goals that are beyond our reach. Some examples would be:

  • I want to be a great singer, but I don’t have a voice for that.
  • I want to be a gymnast, but I don’t have flexibility.
  • I want to be a dancer, but I don’t have motor coordination.
  • I want to dance, but I can’t because I don’t have the talent for it.

There are many things we want to do, but sometimes we don’t have the necessary qualities to do them. How can you want to be a great singer if you can’t sing? Sometimes we dream of realities that are unrealistic. It’s a trap.

The problem with the want-and-can’t trap is that sometimes we want to get things “by magic.” If you don’t make an effort, you won’t reach your goals, you won’t get that much-desired wealth. Nothing happens easily. In fact, you don’t want what you want, because you can’t and don’t want to achieve it.

The illusion of “I can’t” and the reality of “I don’t want”

Another circumstance that can happen is that we want to achieve something, but we get frustrated and keep saying we can’t achieve it, when the real reality is that we don’t want to succeed. It may seem contradictory, but if we really don’t want to achieve something, why do we fool ourselves as if we can’t achieve it?

Sometimes  this happens because there are people who expect certain results from us, at other times it is simply because there is a lack of willpower. Unless you are in the trap of wanting but I cannot, because you really cannot fulfill this dream that is totally unattainable, anything can be achieved if you wish. But you need to be firm in that decision.

It’s no use wanting to achieve certain things if it really isn’t like that. You rush to say you can’t finish a job, a college, a goal, when inside you what you really don’t want is to get it. Are you lying to yourself? Or by chance you don’t know yourself?

You can do it, but you’re afraid

If you have the qualities and abilities to turn a dream into reality, if you really want to achieve this feat, but it’s been very difficult, if you find yourself blocked and paralyzed, it’s probably because you’re afraid. Sometimes, in order to achieve our dreams, we are subjected to a lot of pressure and a lot of fears that we thought we would never experience. It’s normal.

Imagine that your dream is to be a great singer, but suddenly it happens that you have to face a great audience. You wanted to sing, but you never thought about being watched. It’s totally normal for you to be scared when you’re so focused on maximizing your skills and getting what you want, and you even forget about everything going on around you. Don’t worry, use fear as an impulse.

Think that fear is an essential part of achieving everything you set out to do. It will probably paralyze you, but you must be strong, think about your dream, look him in the eye and reach your goal. You can use your fears as the necessary impetus to overcome yourself.

We all go through these “I want but I can’t” moments, however, it is necessary to know how to identify them. First, is it something you can make real? Second, do you really want to or are you kidding yourself? Third, think:  “fears won’t stop me from achieving what I want.”
