Woman: Neither Submissive Nor Devout; I Want You Beautiful, Free And Crazy
“Woman: neither submissive nor devout, I want you beautiful, free and crazy”, at some point in history someone uttered this phrase, making her message mark the times. Sadly, it is still necessary to remember it today, and it is also true that we still have a long way to go to carry the message to more and more people.
the woman away from domination
the heroic way of being a woman
Women and men are equal in their status as unique and independent people. Patriarchy, however, appears in countless gestures, words, images, values, ideas and beliefs that serve as the foundation of both physical and emotional submission.
Yet today there are thousands of men and women fighting because they believe that equality is a right for everyone, and that even though men and women differ, everyone deserves the same respect and affection.
Unfortunately, even with all this, there is still an enormous weight on women, a symbolic weight because this patriarchy legitimizes certain discourses that impose meanings on each of our female behaviors.
No more feeling guilty about not giving our all on tasks we don’t like, no more not trusting our worth and abilities, no more not giving us time to relax, no more ignoring our feelings, no more accepting the obligation to to bow our heads, to do the impossible to change our bodies and fit into stereotypes.
Let’s start with ourselves and let’s stop being passive, resigned, obedient, both in service and in caring for others, in managing the home, taking care of the children, in the image of a good wife, in the objectification of our bodies, in repression and patience…
Let’s look for freedom and our personal identity, let’s leave aside what is expected of the female identity and let’s assume the actions, postures, expectations and judgments we want and desire, not what determined us because we were born women. Let’s be free, crazy and beautiful at heart, like all men and all people.
